KIT INSTRUCTIONS

STEP 1
If a helium tank was not delivered, purchase a JUMBO Balloon Time Helium Tank
Using the provided gift card, purchase a JUMBO Balloon Helium Tank.

  • The Jumbo tank is 14.9 cubic feet. It should have a big number “50” on the side of the box. Other sizes will not work.
  • These tanks can be found at some Wal-Mart’s, Party City’s, Michael’s, etc.

STEP 2
Watch the Ballon Launch Video
The Balloon Launch Video is approximately 30 minutes long.

STEP 3
Submit your Pre-Flight Checklist
For each balloon being launched, ONE Pre-Flight Checklist must be submitted at least 3 days before the launch (4 days if you’re launching your balloon in Washington, DC or Charleston, SC). You are not allowed to launch until you receive the “go-ahead” email from us.

  • When deciding the date/time to launch, keep in mind that you cannot launch in any precipitation. We recommend launching in as low winds as possible. Between 10-15 mph, you’ll need to be very careful not to let the balloon touch the ground or helium tank. We do NOT recommend launching in higher than 15 mph winds.

STEP 4
Invite another class
Invite at least one more class to watch your balloon launch.

STEP 5
On the day of the event, follow the Balloon Launch Guide to launch the balloon
A paper copy is included in your equipment. Make sure to take pictures!

STEP 6
Submit your Launch Conditions
The Launch Conditions worksheet is on page 2 in the Balloon Launch Guide.

STEP 7
Check out your data
Your data/plots will be uploaded here within a week of submitting your Launch Conditions.

STEP 8
Fill out a Feedback Form
Fill out a Feedback Form, and submit pictures to this form.

STEP 9
Return the Equipment
Within 1 week after the launch, please return the equipment to UAH.

Return the following equipment either by the prepaid shipping label, if given, or by emailing [email protected] so we can pick up the equipment. (Refer to the Ballon Launch Guide)

  • 1 Inflator Hose and Inflator Connector
  • 2 Hose Clamps
  • 1 Wrench

Recycle your Helium Tank
